Day 3: Sat 19 Dec - Mudgee to Canberra
We hit the road at 8am heading to
Bathurst. A cool and cloudy day, 18deg, a very pleasant change from our hot and
humid conditions back home. Like yesterday a lovely drive through an intense
agricultural region, grapes, olives, stone fruit, cattle, sheep, horses, wheat,
lucerne and small crops. They’ve had some great rain recently as it’s all lush and green; a
nice change from previous visits. And the roads are so
much better than the bush tracks we have in Qld!
Passed through some great little historical/quirky towns, like Safala,
Wattle Flat and Peel, amongst the rolling hills around Bathurst, which was so busy that we
were glad to be out of town once we’d had our caffeine hit. We continued our
backroads wanderings, via Trunkey Creek, Tuena and Crookwell on the longest,
most winding section of road either of us have ever been on. We were certainly pleased to be back on the straight and relatively wide roads after Goulburn, which was out lunch stop.
We arrived in Canberra just after 3pm.
