Day 2: Fri 18 Dec - Goondiwindi (QLD) to Mudgee (NSW), 530km

23 - 32 - 27 degC A very leisurely start saw us cross the NSW/QLD border about 7:20 am  (8:20am in NSW).  It was nice to see that they had started upgrading the Moree section of the Newell Hwy.  Apart from being stuck behind a wide load that took up the entire road till Moree it was a pretty good run.  Managed to sneak past him at Moree. We had mornos at Narrabri Maccas and lunch was at Dunedoo. When we reached Gulgong, we took a short drive around the historical town and have decided that if we are ever back in the area with the van, we will stay in town and have a walk/ride around. Onward to Mudgee (arrived about 3:30pm) where we have stayed before, but in the van park. This time, we are at the Soldiers Motel, room 12A. Not a flash room, and were hoping the smokers go to bed early. We went for a ride, only 10km, around town which was cut short by a flat tyre for Wendy. Greg decided he wanted to fix the puncture - “no time like the present”, before heading out for d...

Day 1: Thu 17 Dec - Home to Goondiwindi, 543km

27-35 degC, drizzly rain to start with, then hot and muggy After a made scurry to find the spare keys for the cruiser, we were on the road just before 8am. It was weird to be ‘going on holiday’ without the van, but we soon got over that. Our first stop was at Kilkivan for coffee, however, there was a queue so we moved on to Goomeri where we had good coffee. Dalby was our next stop for lunch at Maccas. We arrived at Goondiwindi about 3:30pm and checked into the Town House Motel, room 34. Again, it was weird to be checking into a hotel when we would normally be in a van park. After unpacking the few things we needed for the overnight stay, we went for a wander to check out our favorite van park and all the sights Goondiwindi has to offer. Back to the room for a rest in the cool room before heading out for dinner. Another favorite was our dining place - Victoria Hotel. After dining, we walked slowly back to the hotel; it was Thursday night shopping in town and there were people everywhere...

Introduction

We missed the collective Beswick Christmas last year (every odd year is a Beswick Christmas) due to Wendy being unable to walk pre hip replacement.  So due to not being able to travel earlier in the year, we decided to head down to Canberra to see the rellies over Christmas and New Year. We were not going to do a blog as this trip is sans caravan, but it is avec (with) bikes, so will post only when there is something to tell.
