Day 2: Fri 18 Dec - Goondiwindi (QLD) to Mudgee (NSW), 530km
23 - 32 - 27 degC
A very leisurely start saw us cross the NSW/QLD border about 7:20 am (8:20am in NSW). It was nice to see that they had started upgrading the Moree section of the Newell Hwy. Apart from being stuck behind a wide load that took up the entire road till Moree it was a pretty good run. Managed to sneak past him at Moree.
We had mornos at Narrabri Maccas and lunch was at Dunedoo. When we reached Gulgong, we took a short drive around the historical town and have decided that if we are ever back in the area with the van, we will stay in town and have a walk/ride around.
Onward to Mudgee (arrived about 3:30pm) where we have stayed before, but in the van park. This time, we are at the Soldiers Motel, room 12A. Not a flash room, and were hoping the smokers go to bed early.
We went for a ride, only 10km, around town which was cut short by a flat tyre for Wendy. Greg decided he wanted to fix the puncture - “no time like the present”, before heading out for dinner.
Dinner was taken at Lawson Park Hotel and we had a slow wander back to the motel taking photos along the way. It is still very light outside and is almost 8pm!
