Wrap-up

We intended to stop at a few more places on the way down and then again on the way home, however, COVID in Sydney put a stop to that.  And, it was certainly different going away without the caravan.  We couldn't just stop anywhere on the side of the road and brew-up so ha to plan our coffee and lunch stops. We also couldn't make our own dinners, so we ate out for all three nights we were on the road. We will probbaly not go away again without the van. We expected Canberra to be quite warm, however, it was quite the opposite, with only a few days of really warm weather. Thankfully, we had packed in preparation for it being cold. Thank you to Pops and BeeBee for their hospitality and putting up with us for four weeks. We had our own little ensuite and whilst the room was not big, it was functional. Thank you to Dale and Suzanne for their hospitality and yummy meals. We will be back for more pizzas! Thank you to Kevin and Samantha for making the time to spend with us while we wer...

Day 29: Thu 14 Jan - Goondiwindi to Home, 542km

We were both awake just after 5am so got up, had breakfast and coffee and were on the road by 7am. Mornos was at Dalby, and then we stopped again at Goomeri for a pit stop. We were home just after 1:30pm, unpacked, had lunch and then a rest. Jumped into the CX-8 and went grocery shopping. Walked over to see Terry and Leandra and to collect our mail.

Day 28: Wed 13 Jan - Canberra to Goondiwindi, 897km

Left at 5:50am. First stop was at Cowra for a wee break and a coffee. Stopped again at Gilgandra for another pit stop and lunch (eggie sandwiches). Third stop was at Narrabri for another pit stop and another coffee. Last stop for the day was at Goondiwindi and we arrived at 3:20pm (Qld Time). After a little relax, we walked the long way to dinner which we had at the Victoria Hotel and then walked back to the hotel the other long way.   We managed to stay up until 9pm Qld time which was pretty good considering the long day driving we did.

Rode to National Gallery of Australia and spent an hour and a bit looking through the displays. Greg stayed on and had a coffee with Bob and Wendy came home on her own. Greg bought some new fencing supplies and raised the height of the fence to hide the neighbours patio cover. Had dinner with Dale, Suzanne, Joanna, Carla and Henry. Late night. Day 23: Fri 8 Jan - Canberra

Super cold this morning. Rode into the AWM for a look around. They have really improved the quality of the displays and dioramas. One of the most impressive viewings was of Keith Payne, VC, medals, if worn altogether they would almost measure shoulder to shoulder. Had Phil, Sandy and Bob over for dinner – a lovely, relaxed night with long-time friends.
